“Traditions That Tell the Story”
Main Idea: The traditions of Advent—lighting candles, singing carols, decorating, giving, gathering—aren’t just nostalgia; they remind us of eternal truths that prepare us for the coming of Jesus.
Week 1 – The Tradition of Hope (Isaiah 9:2–7; Romans 15:12–13)
Main Idea: Traditions like lighting the first candle remind us that hope shines brightest in the darkness.
Week 2 – The Tradition of Love (Luke 1:26–38)
Main Idea: The tradition of showing love during Christmas mirrors the divine love that came down to us.
Week 3 – The Tradition of Joy (Luke 2:8–20)
Main Idea: Joyful traditions: singing, celebrating, gathering all point to the lasting joy found in Christ.
Week 4 – The Tradition of Peace (Micah 5:2–5a; John 14:27)
Main Idea: Advent traditions remind us that peace is not found in perfection but in God’s presence.
Christmas Eve – The Tradition of Light (John 1:1-14)
Main Idea: Every candle, carol, and tradition finds its meaning in the Light of the World.
